Match Report v Pontefract
Following the very poor performance and disappointing result last week this game was a different kettle of fish entirely.
Without our trio of First Team regulars, Josh, Nathan and Joe things were not tilted in our favour, but despite misgivings the team turned in a really excellent performance, but this time missed out on a thoroughly deserved 3 points, last week was exactly what we deserved .....nothing.
If it had not been for two unbelievably bad decisions by the officials gifting Pontefract their two goals the boys would have had the points and accolades.
Why sub-standad officials are put in charge of youth team games I will never know, and between them these three were as bad as it gets; I wish.
Enough of the whinging, the Pickering boys played really well, with a good high tempo and showing the ability to make good decisions and pass both well and quickly. Following the first penaly decision after 30 secs,Danny Glenndining missed an opportunity to equalise from a yard out with an open goal. Our poor decisions in front of goal were spoiling some excellent build up play. But we persisted until shortly before half time when Pontefract were awarded another goal which was blatantly off side.
Tim Taylor scored our goal, he had a very good game. Then we were camped in Pontefract's half for the whole of the second period, uinfortunately we did not score, including a saved penalty from Danny Glenndining.
We played the last 30 mins with three Under 16's on the pitch, and they did not look out of place, which augers well for future seasons. Lewis Taylor started and looked very astute, his decision making and technical ability are both outstanding, Aiden Thomas looked very lively in a more forward role and Tom Lloyd from Malton played with confidence at the back.
Although the result puts our desire to win the league in other teams hands it is all not doom and gloom as the team performance, effort and attitude were all first class.
Just the bloody result again!!!!!
